I had another great ride along the Grantham Canal Tow Path today. I joined the canal by the A1, on Harlaxton Road, and rode for six or seven miles until the path joined the road near the village of Muston. The water along large sections was masked by a thick carpet of green algae, in places it looked like someone had laid astroturf on it
For those not familiar with the path it hugs the canalside as far as the Dirty Duck Pub at Woolsthorpe and then continues parallel to the canal on the old railway line. Although on the old railway it does come close to the canal in several places. Having last ridden this route over a year ago, I was disappointed to see the two new locks were still not open to the public and no work had taken place to continue the tow path from the Dirty Duck to the new locks.
I also noted that somebody who has clearly had enough of the dog shit on the tow path has taken to spraying the faeces with red paint to highlight them. Spray and shame them I guess…!
