Stapleford Wood is an area of mixed woodland of roughly a thousand acres on the outskirts of Newark. It is popular with walkers, dog walkers, joggers and horse riders alike. There are a variety of trails through the woods including a limited number of accessible trails near the main car park.
After a great saunter through the woods yesterday afternoon I returned to walk the same route this morning, in a purposeful way. Today the woods had a new fresh feel about them following an afternoon of heavy rain. I parked to the side of a gateway on the Coddington side of the woods and my route followed the outskirts of the wood on the North side, always turning left to keep the fields on my left and the woods on my right, until I could go no further. I then turned right and doubled back on myself on a wide track through the middle of the woods.
Just short of three and a half miles in one hour and seven minutes. The walking was a tiny bit damp underfoot, but still good going with few puddles. The trees were beautifully fresh with many sporting new leaves and the woodland floor was also greening up nicely with lots of bracken already grown to knee height.
