My Books
My books reflect a lifetime of curiosity, travel, service, and questioning how the world really works. They’re practical, reflective, and occasionally uncomfortable by design.

Money for Life
Money for Life cuts through the jargon and confusion surrounding personal finance, giving you clear, practical guidance on how to take control of your money with confidence.
Written for people who feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start, the book breaks down essential topics such as budgeting, banking, saving, investing, credit, debt, and credit scores in plain English. It also explores more advanced areas including the stock market, property, mortgages, insurance, and cryptocurrency—without assuming any prior knowledge.
Packed with practical advice, step-by-step guidance, and a hands-on budgeting workbook, Money for Life helps you build strong financial habits, understand how money really works, and make smarter decisions for the future.
Whether you’re managing money for the first time or simply want to feel more in control, this book is your straightforward roadmap to financial confidence and independence.

Tales from the Headquarters
My first job was as a DJ on a mobile roller-skating rink in 1983. It lasted less than a year and set the tone for what followed: a long list of jobs and a slightly chaotic life. I was a potter, taxi driver, truck driver, cold-store picker, gardener, milkman—and for large chunks of each year, a traveller. Money was always tight. I mostly lived week to week and often back at my parents’ house on a “will work for food” basis.
By my late twenties, reality caught up with me. I was unemployed, had a mortgage, and a young family to support. After picking winkles on the beach and working as a creel fisherman, a chance encounter in Inverness led me to sign up for the Royal Air Force.
For the next fifteen years, service life treated me well. I lived in some great places and enjoyed the work, but as the end approached, frustration crept in—waste, bureaucracy, and the absurdities of the system. When I talked about it, my civilian friends struggled to believe my military stories, and my military friends struggled to believe my stories of life back home.
So, with little else to occupy my final year in uniform, I kept a diary for twelve months. This book is the result: everyday life in the RAF, life at home with three teenagers, and the mixed-up, strange, and often humorous thoughts that pass through my head—along with my views on just about everything.

How the World Will End
How the World Will End explores twenty-five realistic, non-fiction apocalyptic scenarios that could bring civilisation to its knees. From nuclear war and global pandemics to lesser-known but equally devastating threats, each carefully researched chapter examines not just the moment of collapse—but what comes after.
Blending vivid, accessible writing with solid historical evidence and analysis, this book takes readers deep into humanity’s darkest possibilities. It challenges assumptions, confronts uncomfortable truths, and asks how fragile our world really is.
Unsettling, thought-provoking, and impossible to ignore, How the World Will End forces you to consider one haunting question: if disaster struck tomorrow, would we survive—or unravel?

Reclaiming Your Life at 50
Reclaiming Your Life at 50 is a practical planning guide to help you navigate the changes that come with turning fifty—and to look ahead with confidence rather than uncertainty.
It explores the physical, mental, and emotional transitions many people experience at this stage of life, offering clear, accessible guidance on improving health through exercise, nutrition, stress management, mindfulness, and self-care. No prior experience is assumed—you’re guided step by step throughout.
From there, the book helps you rediscover purpose and direction. You’ll reflect on past interests, explore new passions, strengthen connections with family and community, and consider what fulfilment really looks like in the years ahead. Financial planning is also addressed, with practical insights into budgeting, saving, investing, and preparing for long-term security.
The final chapters focus on resilience, overcoming setbacks, and defining the legacy you want to leave—asking not what life has taken, but what it still offers and what you can still contribute.
Each chapter includes a guided exercise designed to prompt reflection and action, helping you move forward with clarity, purpose, and renewed confidence.
