A Better Than Expected Time

We had a great New Year’s Eve at the Wheatsheaf in Dry Doddington watching the 80’s tribute band ‘Scoundrel Dayz’ last night. We weren’t sure whether to go initially and watch the band, or even to go out at all for that matter; however, once out we were out, we didn’t want to go back home again.

We also had a great Christmas at our friends in Newbury.  We called the friends that we spent Christmas with today to wish them a Happy New Year and to once again thank them for their kind hospitality over Christmas. When asked if they’d enjoyed it our friends said, ‘it was better than expected.’ I thought about that for a second then agreed. It was. We’ve spent nearly every Christmas with them for the last ten years, generally taking it in turns to host. This year our collective six children ranged between 20 and 14 years old, with three of them being 19 years old. We too were worried that it just wouldn’t be the same mix of fun, booze and games, but it was. Our numbers were even swollen by two boyfriends and it still worked out fine.

Our friends were right, we’d both worried it wasn’t going to work and it really was better than expected. It was absolutely fabulous.
