I have this theory about kids, families, relationships and leaving home that’s based purely on my opinion without any hard evidence to back it up. In brief it goes like this:
Generally, and I know this isn’t always true, people fancy people of roughly a similar age and with roughly similar interests. They don’t usually fancy older people nor children because they’re genetically no good for breeding with. They live together, sometimes marry, and frequently have kids. Quite often they split up and go on to have more families with other partners. This is because genetically they’re programmed to breed with several different partners because it’s good for the human race.
Once kids become teenagers and start to go through puberty they’re genetically programmed to become increasingly annoying and also to hate their parents more and more until they want to leave home, and their parents are willing to do anything to get them to leave.
We’ve currently reached this stage with our eldest daughter. Does anyone know where it goes from “you’re the biggest idiot of a dad I’ve ever seen and when I move out in the next few weeks I’m not telling you where I’m going and I’ll never have to speak to anyone in this stupid family again?”
Interesting to hear others experience. I hope we go through a few weeks silence then a reconciliation, but I’m not sure if we’ve come too far this time.
